The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is inviting applications and entries for the 7th Thailand Tourism Awards in 2008 from 1 April through to 31 May 2008.

The Thailand Tourism Awards were first introduced by TAT in 1996 with the recognition and endorsement of the World Tourism Organization.

The awards recognize and honour tourism-related organisations in the private and public sectors which have played a significant direct and indirect role in tourism development.

The Thailand Tourism Award is Thailand's 'Hallmark of Excellence' — a symbol of assurance in the outstanding quality and reliability of tourism products and services offered by a particular organisation or operator.

The distinguished awards recognise the finest achievements and outstanding contributions to Thai tourism and represent the country's highest honours conferred for innovation and creativity in the field of sustainable tourism, conservation and environmental protection efforts.

THE AWARD CATEGORIES FOR 2008
There will be a total of six award categories for the 2008 awards programme. These are:
Award for Tourism Promotion and Development Organisations
Award for Communication and Public Relations Works
Awards for Tour Programmes
Awards for Tourism Attractions
Awards for Health Tourism
Awards for Tourism Accommodation

To reflect the latest trends, quality standards and best practices adopted by the global tourism industry, the judging criteria for the 7th Thailand Tourism Awards in 2008 will take into consideration the contribution made by individual tourism operators in the areas of the promotion environmental conservation; measures undertaken to promote the reduction of global warming; participation in and contribution to the local community; the adoption of the sufficiency economy philosophy advocated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand; and the demonstration of good corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.

The awards are presented to individuals, groups of individuals, organisations and agencies worldwide who have played a significant role in promoting Thailand abroad and have contributed to the wider publicity of the destination in the international community.

TOURIST GUIDE AWARDS
The Tourist Guides Awards Project was introduced by the TAT’s Bangkok Tourist Business and Guide Registration Office in 2000 in recognition of the important role of tourists guides who in effect are cultural ambassadors of Thailand, performing a public relations role to tourists from around the world.

The Tourist Guides Project was launched to promote and accord honour to Thai guides who are knowledgeable, competent, have high moral standards and ethics, and to promote friendly competition among guides and to promote quality.
